Get to know yourself,
backed up by science

What is Mindframe about?

Just as you have a dominant hand, you have a dominant foot, ear, eye and brain hemisphere. The combination of your dominant modalities can tell you a lot about your preferences, your natural talents, and how you will react in a stressful situation, and it is all backed up by scientific research.

ā€‹

Dr. Annette Lotter, an Occupational Psychologist, developed the brain dominance profiles, called Edu-profile, in the early 90s after her own work led her to realise how problematic IQ tests were in determining people's abilities. She built on the work of Dr. Carla Hanneford’s Basal Dominance as well as Ned Hermann's Whole Brain Model as these models did not discriminate, but rather tried to understand our universal and in-born strengths and innate potential.

ā€‹

Unlike other behavioural assessments, a brain profile analysis can not be manipulated, and the result will remain constant throughout one's life as it is genetically hard-wired into us. It is most accurate to think of the brain profile analysis as a tool that brings understanding rather than an assessment with absolutes.

ā€‹

The insights gained from a brain profile analysis will provide guidance to scholars who need to make subject or course choices, couples who need to understand each other's behaviours or individuals needing personalised tools to manage stress or direction for a career change.

How does it work?

Although people with similar profiles may have similar traits, likes, dislikes and talents, we are all unique and our circumstances, family dynamics and history all play a role in moulding and shaping us into who we are. The goal is therefore not to use these profiles to place you in a box, but rather to help you gain insight that will help you work with these traits in a career or relationship, given your unique circumstances.

Although a session at Mindframe is not a counselling session, a personalised approach is followed where your circumstances and sources of stress in your life are considered. A session will start with a brief explanation of the research, science and biology behind the profiles followed by a discussion about your unique profile. We will then unpack this in a framework that will help you apply it in your daily life.

ā€‹

Each profile is also mapped onto the 32 personal traits outlined by the Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ), a widely         used and highly reliable personality test used internationally, usually by corporations as part of the recruitment process. This allows for a unique way to analyse and compare profiles to each other as well as to various careers, highlighting where stresses and opportunities may arise or be hidden.

Brain Analysis for Stress Management

Stress is undoubtedly a big part of our lives and serves an important function, but if we are living in a state of chronic stress, it will have a detrimental effect on our health and wellbeing. As part of the brain profile analysis, we will not only look at how your profile reacts when you are stressed, but we can also identify what may cause stress in your life, given your profile. This allows for a unique approach where we can then discuss tools and strategies that can help you more effectively deal with daily stress.

Relationship Analysis for Better Connections

It is interesting to see that often we choose a partner that has the opposite profile than we have. Do we do this as we subconsciously know we can lean on each other's strengths, making us a dynamic duo? Working with couples and analysing their profiles has given new meaning to the phrase "opposites attract", but unfortunately this means we often don't understand each other's opposite needs. In a couple session, we don't only identify each person's strengths and needs, but we also have a discussion where we can unpack how to more effectively handle conflicts that may arise from having different viewpoints. Understanding ourselves and our partner can enable us to support each other's growth within the relationship more lovingly.

Career & Subject Choice Guidance for Better Decisions

Knowing your profile, and your inborn strengths and talents, can provide valuable insight into identifying an ideal job, or how to position yourself within your industry. A unique benefit of having a brain profile analysis done is that your profile can be compared to an ideal profile for the job or career that you are considering. Your profile, as well as the profile of a perfect candidate for the considered job, is mapped onto the 32 traits, as outlined by the OPQ. This allows for a unique discussion about possible challenges, pleasures and stresses that you may experience in the particular job. By identifying challenges in a current or future career, you can make an informed decision about whether it is the right career for you, or how you can proactively implement tools and strategies to more effectively cope with such challenges.

Parenting Analysis for Better Support

The importance for a child to be understood can not be emphasised enough. Having insight into your child's profile will help you understand the needs they may not be able to communicate or comprehend yet. This will allow you to more effectively and proactively guide them through life's challenges and adjust your parenting style to minimise unnecessary conflicts and stress.
